If a public sidewalk is required to be closed for reasons of construction then the following must take place:
Clearly marked advance signs must direct pedestrians to intersections with marked crosswalks where any exist.
If there are no alternate pedestrian routes, the construction of a covered pedestrian walkway must occur if conditions permit its use.
A right-of -way permit detailing the pedestrian accommodation plan must be requested and approved.
The Department of Environmental Services has revised the Applications for the Public Right-of-Way Permits.
Beginning October 31, 2005 , please use the updated forms. You may pickup the new forms at the Department of Environmental Services office in 2100 Clarendon Boulevard, Suite 813 or can be downloaded from the Arlington County website. All applications shall be submitted to this office.
