On-Street Parking – Signed Controls

Parking Signs

The placement and maintenance of signed parking controls on the street involves staff from the Data Collection and Signs Teams of the Transportation Engineering Division. The routine repair and replacement of parking signs is done by the Signs Team in response to notification or in the normal course of work throughout the county. When a new parking control is needed, either restriction or expansion of parking, the investigation of need is completed by the Data Collection Team. Professional judgment coupled with the guidance provided by the "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices" and the County Code are utilized in making a determination of sign type and location. Parking controls are enforceable after a temporary or permanent parking ordinance is executed and provided to the Police Department 24 hours in advance of the sign placement. A record of the permit is established and the work request/work order is entered into the work order management system. Installation of new signed parking controls (temporary and permanent) is accomplished by the Signs Team.
