The Neighborhood Services Division creates visibility and priority to neighborhood services and to consolidate existing neighborhood preservation and improvement programs within one unit. The existence of the Neighborhood Services Division reinforces the County Board’s commitment to healthy and vibrant neighborhoods where residents are active in civic and neighborhood affairs and where services are tailored to meet the needs of neighborhoods and coordinated efficiently and effectively among Departments.
The Historic Preservation Program helps identify, preserve, and protect Arlington's historic resources Working with the Historical Affairs and Landmark Review Board(HALRB), program staff researches and designates historic sites, surveys buildings and neighborhoods,and promotes preservation efforts and Arlington's heritage throughout the community. more....
The Arlington Neighborhood College Program is part of Arlington's civic engagement initiative to promote an active and informed community. The free eight week bilingual program seeks to develop effective community leaders and is open to Arlington residents and to people that work in Arlington. Each session will include skill building instruction and exercises to utilize newly acquired skills and tools. The application season will be coming up again in January 2013. more....
The Neighborhood Conservation Program is a unique tool that provides funding for a variety of capital improvement projects. Improvements include installation of sidewalks, curbs and gutters, streetlights, park improvements, neighborhood art, and beautification. Projects are based on written plans submitted to the County for review and acceptance. more....
