County Board to Kick Off 2018 with Jan. 2 Organizational Meeting

Join the Arlington County Board as it gets to work on the first business day of 2018 with its annual Organizational Meeting, set to begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2 in the County Board Room.

Board Members will seat
Erik Gutshall, elected in November to a four-year term, elect their 2018 chair and vice chair, and lay out their priorities for 2018. They also will finalize their meeting schedule for 2018, make appointments to commissions and deal with other organizational items.
"The Organizational Meeting marks the start of the Board's working year," Board Vice Chair Katie Cristol said. "This year, we will welcome a new member, Erik Gutshall, to the Board, before laying out our areas of focus for 2018. We also look forward to the continuation of a new tradition begun last year: Following the Organizational Meeting, we will welcome the Civic Federation, which draws delegates from around the County, for a conversation on the issues of importance to them."
The meeting, held in the Board Room on the Third Floor of the County Government Building, 2100 Clarendon Blvd., will be followed by a light reception in the foyer of the Board Room. The public is welcome. The meeting also will be broadcast live on
ATV, the County's cable television channel, on Comcast channels 25 and 74 and Verizon FiOS channels 39 and 40, and live-streamed on
YouTube and the
County website (which offers closed-captioning).

Board Members to field Civic Federation questionsAt 7:30 p.m., the County Board will be the guests at the
Arlington Civic Federation's January 2018 Membership Meeting in the Board Room. Board Members will answer questions from Civic Federation members on a range of topics. The Civic Federation, formed in 1916, is a non-profit civic group with 80 member organizations, dedicated to promoting the general welfare of the County.
