Public Invited to Swearing-in of Erik Gutshall

The public is invited to join the Arlington County Board on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017 for the swearing-in of Board Member-elect Erik Gutshall. Gutshall was elected to a four-year term on the Board on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017. The ceremony will begin at 5 p.m., and will be followed by a reception outside the Board Room, Room 307 in the County Office Building, 2100 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington, VA, 22201.

No RSVP is necessary.

The ceremony, which will take place between the afternoon and evening sessions of the Board's December 2017 Recessed Meeting, will be live-streamed on the County website, and broadcast on ATV, the County's cable channel, on Comcast 25 and 74 and Verizon FiOS 39 and 40.

About Erik Gutshall

The founder and president of his own business, Clarendon Home Services, Mr. Gutshall has served his community in a variety of roles since he and his wife Renee moved to Lyon Park in 1995.

As both a member of County commissions and an active community volunteer, Mr. Gutshall has worked hard to implement Arlington's vision of a sustainable, inclusive community. He sees housing affordability as a fundamental challenge that must be met through bold action.

As Chair of the Planning Commission, and during his service on the Transportation Commission, Mr. Gutshall has supported strong public engagement and thoughtful planning to ensure that private development contributes to residents' quality of life and that any potential negative impacts of development are mitigated.

Mr. Gutshall served as president of the Lyon Park Citizens Association from 2002-2005. He was a neighborhood representative on the Site Plan Review Committee and for many Clarendon-area projects. He is a member of Leadership Arlington Class of 2009.

As a member of the Planning Committee, he served on the Western Rosslyn Planning Study and as Chair of the Williamsburg Field Site Evaluation Work Group, as well as liaison to the Economic Development Commission.

For six years, he served on the Board of Doorways for Women and Families. He has served on the Facilities Committee of Western Presbyterian Church, coached youth soccer, and served as a PTA volunteer. His three daughters all attend Arlington Public Schools.

Mr. Gutshall has a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from James Madison University and a Master of Arts degree in Environmental Resource Policy from the George Washington University.

About the Arlington County Board

The five-member Arlington County Board is Arlington's governing body. It is vested with the County's legislative powers. Board members are elected at-large and serve staggered four-year terms. The position of Chair rotates annually. The Chair is the official County head and presides over Board meetings. Both the Chair and the Vice Chair are elected annually at the Board's January Organizational Meeting.
