Meet the 22 Newest Neighborhood College Graduates

Nearly two dozen Arlingtonians have joined the ranks of Neighborhood College alumni, as the Arlington County Board recognized the graduates of the program on Tuesday evening. 

This year marks the 20th graduating class from Neighborhood College, a free, eight-session program designed to help participants become more effective community activists and leaders.  

"In Arlington, having an engaged citizenry is a very important value and is reflected in our vision statement," County Board Chair Christian Dorsey said before the recognition ceremony.  

Dorsey noted that the 22 graduates vary in their civic experience from "those who have already become fully engaged and members of our advisory commissions and active in many issues in our community to some who are at the very beginning of their community participation journey."

The Neighborhood College program teaches participants how to ask the right questions, enhance their listening skills, give and receive feedback, build consensus and plan for action. Since its inception in 2000, the program has graduated nearly 400 people.  

In addition to completing the eight classes, graduates have committed to completing at least 10 hours of volunteer work in Arlington County within six months of completing the program.
