Advisory: Special Event at Virginia Highlands Park

ARLINGTON, Va. – On Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021, President Joe Biden will attend a special event at Virginia Highlands Park, located at 1600 S Hayes Street in Arlington. The event will take place from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Road Closures

The public can anticipate large crowds and increased pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the area related to the event. The following roadways will be closed beginning at 3:00 p.m.:

• S. Hayes Street from 15th Street S. to S. Fern Street
• 15th Street S. from S. Joyce Street to S. Hayes Street

The following roadway will be closed beginning at 4 p.m.:

• S. Ives Street from 16th Street S. to 17th Street S.

All road closures are anticipated to be lifted by 10 p.m. The Arlington County Police Department will also monitor traffic conditions and may implement additional road closures in the interest of public safety. Those traveling in the area should follow the direction of officers.

Park and Facility Closures

All activities at Virginia Highlands Park are cancelled on Monday, Oct. 25 and Tuesday, Oct. 26. There will be no pedestrian access to the park during this time, unless attending the event on Oct. 26. 

The Aurora Hills Recreation Center and Aurora Hills Branch Library will be closed on Tuesday, Oct. 26. 

The Curative COVID-19 Testing Kiosk will be closed Tuesday, Oct. 26.

Parking

Street parking in the area will be restricted and no event parking will be permitted at Virginia Highlands Park, Aurora Hills Recreation Center or Aurora Hills Branch Library. Motorists should be on the lookout for temporary “No Parking” signs. Illegally parked vehicles may be ticketed or towed. If your vehicle is towed from a public street or parking lot, call the Emergency Communications Center at 703-558-2222.

Participants are encouraged to arrive using multi-modal and public transportation options to reduce vehicular congestion. This area is Metro-accessible, within a few blocks of the Pentagon City Metro Station. The entrance to the event will be located at 15th Street S. and S. Hayes Street.

Rideshare Pick-Up and Drop-Off Location

A designated rideshare pick-up and drop-off zone has been established at the Pentagon City Metro, located at 1250 S. Hayes Street. Drivers are reminded that stopping or standing in travel lanes to discharge or pick-up passengers is strictly prohibited.
