Crime Report: December 30, 2021

REPORTS

HIT AND RUN (significant), 2021-12290153, Columbia Pike at S. Greenbrier Street. At approximately 4:39 p.m. on December 29, police were dispatched to the report of a hit and run just occurred. Based upon information from witnesses in the area, arriving officers located the suspect vehicle, which had sustained significant damage, and attempted to make contact with the suspect. The suspect ignored multiple lawful commands from officers to exit the vehicle. Officers then removed the vehicle’s driver side window and attempted to remove the suspect, however the suspect continued to ignore their commands and resist arrest. Officers deployed a TASER and the suspect was subsequently taken into custody without further incident. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that prior to officers arrival, the suspect allegedly struck four vehicles in Arlington County and was involved in an additional hit and run in Fairfax County. No injuries were reported by the victims and the suspect was treated on scene by medics before being transported to an area hospital to be medically evaluated. Michael Winningham, 34, of Alexandria, Va., was arrested and charged with Felony Hit and Run (x2), Attempted Felony Hit and Run, Driving Under the Influence, and Obstruction of Justice. He was also served with outstanding warrants out of Fairfax County. He was held without bond.

UNLAWFUL ENTRY, 2021-12290039, 600 block of S. Harrison Street. At approximately 8:03 a.m. on December 29, police were dispatched to the report of suspicious circumstances. Upon arrival, it was determined that the victims’ were inside their residence when they observed the unknown male suspects allegedly inside their shed, speaking with what was believed to be another individual. Arriving officers located the male suspect and detained him without incident. Additional units canvased the area for the outstanding suspect with negative results. Sandro Oscar Jordan Tapia, 47, of Arlington, Va., was arrested and charged with Unlawful Entry and Drunk in Public.

BRANDISHING (late), 2021-12290121, 2800 block of 1st Road N. At approximately 2:27 p.m. on December 29, police were dispatched to the late report of threats. Upon arrival, it was determined that at approximately 11:00 a.m., the victim was making deliveries in the area when he was approached by the unknown male suspect. The suspect exited his vehicle and began yelling at the victim and a verbal dispute ensued. The suspect then returned to his vehicle and left the scene. A short time later, the suspect returned in his vehicle, resumed yelling at the victim, and grabbed what appeared to be a firearm from underneath the passenger seat. The victim then left the area and the suspect vehicle fled the scene. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male with short hair and a stocky build, approximately 5’10”, wearing a navy sweatshirt and blue jeans. The suspect vehicle is described as a black dump truck. The investigation is ongoing.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY (late), 2021-12290127, 2900 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 3:08 p.m. on December 29, police were dispatched to the late report of a breaking and entering. Upon arrival, it was determined that at approximately 12:34 a.m., the unknown male suspect forced entry into the business and rummaged through multiple rooms. The suspect forced open a cash register and forced entry into several secured rooms within the business before fleeing the scene on foot. No items were reported stolen from the business. The suspect is described as a Black male with a goatee, approximately 35 to 45 years old, wearing a blue puffy jacket, dark colored beanie, gray hoodie, gray sweatpants, and black sneakers. The investigation is ongoing.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY, 2021-12290215, 800 block of S. Frederick Street. At approximately 11:27 p.m. on December 29, police were dispatched to the report of an attempted burglary. Upon arrival, it was determined that the victim awoke to noise coming from his window. When he went to investigate, he observed the screen had been cut through and partially removed. Arriving officers canvased the area with negative results. No entry was believed to have been made inside and no other items were reported missing or damaged. There is no suspect(s) description. The investigation is ongoing.
