Crime Report: February 28, 2022

REPORTS

ABDUCTION, 2022-02270029, S. Courthouse Road at 4th Street S. At approximately 1:26 a.m. on February 27, police were dispatched to the report of a trouble unknown. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim who stated she was in her parked vehicle with the known suspect when they became involved in a verbal dispute, during which the suspect allegedly strangled the victim. When the victim attempted to exit the vehicle, the suspect grabbed onto her and attempted to pull her back inside. A brief struggle ensued before the victim was able to remove herself from the vehicle and alert a witness. The suspect then fled the scene on foot and responding officers located him at his residence and took him into custody without incident. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Maurice Daniels, 33, of Arlington, Va., was arrested and charged with Abduction and Strangulation.

RECOVERED STOLEN AUTO, 2022-02260097, 300 block of Army Navy Drive. At approximately 10:49 a.m. on February 26, officers observed two subjects enter a parked vehicle that had been reported stolen during a carjacking in Maryland. Stop sticks were deployed and officers activated their emergency equipment and attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver continued to flee onto the NB I-395 Express Lanes. A vehicle pursuit was initiated and, with assistance by Virginia State Police, the suspect vehicle was stopped and both occupants were detained. During a search of the driver, a firearm was recovered. The driver, William Harris, 18, of Capitol Heights, MD, was transported to an area hospital and once medically cleared, arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Goods, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Eluding and No Driver’s License. He was held on no bond.

CARJACKING, 2022-02270120, Unit block of N. Columbus Street. At approximately 12:35 p.m. on February 27, police were dispatched to the report of a carjacking. Upon arrival, it was determined that the suspect and victim met for the prearranged sale of a vehicle. During a test drive of the vehicle, the suspect brandished a firearm, threatened the victim and demanded his property. The victim was able to exit the vehicle before the suspect fled the scene in the stolen vehicle with the victim’s cell phone and wallet. The victim was not injured. The suspect is described as a Black male, approximate 25 – 35 years old, 5’8” – 5’10” tall with black hair and brown eyes. The stolen vehicle is described as a gray 2012 Nissan Maxima. The investigation is ongoing. 

ROBBERY, 2022-02260051, 1500 block of Wilson Boulevard. At approximately 2:25 a.m. on February 26, police were dispatched to the report of a fight in progress. Upon arrival, it was determined that the suspect approached the victim and asked to use his cell phone. After the victim gave his cell phone to the suspect, a verbal dispute ensued, during which the victim attempted to take his phone out of the suspect’s hands. A struggle ensued and the suspect pushed the victim to the ground before fleeing the scene on foot with the cell phone. The victim sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The suspect is described as a Middle Eastern male with short black hair, approximately 5’10”, 150 to 160 pounds, in his 40’s, wearing a light colored hoodie, khaki pants, and light colored sneakers. The investigation is ongoing.

BURGLARY (late), 2022-02240192, 1800 block of N. Lynn Street. On February 23, an officer reviewing an online report determined that the incident was a late burglary. Upon making contact with the victim, it was determined that at approximately 4:00 a.m. on February 18, the unknown male suspect entered into the business and stole a safe containing an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing on foot. The suspect is described as a Black male, wearing dark jeans, white shoes, a gray puffy jacket and glasses. The investigation is ongoing.
