County Board March 2022 Agenda Highlights

The Arlington County Board will consider and act on dozens of items at its Regular Board Meeting on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 8:30 AM, and its Recessed Meeting on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at 3 PM.

The meetings, held in the County Board Room on the third floor of 2100 Clarendon Blvd., are open to the public. Visit the County website for information on speaking at a County Board Meeting.

Virtual participation options are available to the public through Microsoft Teams.  We will seek to accommodate visitor preferences for COVID precaution, including distancing; masking is also welcome at the preference of visitors. If you are sick or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please consider watching the meeting’s live webcast or cable broadcast or participating virtually via Microsoft Teams. Comment on Agenda Items and Speak at the Meeting

Send your written comments on agenda items to the County Board at CountyBoard@arlingtonva.us. All comments received by the Board are made part of the public record and are before the Board members as they consider items.

If you wish to comment during the Public Comment period at the start of the Regular Hearing, or on a Regular Public Hearing Item, register in advance on the County Board website, where you can also find more details on public participation in virtual Board Meetings, or call the Board Office at 703-228-3130 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. Online Registration opens once the agenda for the meeting is posted, approximately one week before the meeting.

Saturday, March 19, 2022 – Regular County Board Meeting

Clarendon Sector Plan, Item #45. The Board will consider adopting a resolution to advertise public hearings by the Planning Commission on April 4, 2022, and the County Board on April 23, 2022, to consider the following elements:

(1) Adoption of the 2022 Clarendon Sector Plan - An Update to the 2006 Clarendon Sector Plan

(2) General Land Use Plan Map and Booklet Amendments

(3) Arlington County Zoning Ordinance Amendments to Articles 3, 9, and 18

The Elliott at 2601 Columbia Pike, Item #44.  The Board will consider adopting an ordinance to approve a rezoning request from Service Commercial-Community Business District to CP FBC Columbia Pike Form Based Code District. The Elliott is located at 2601 Columbia Pike. In addition, the Board is being asked to approve the subject use permit, in accordance with the Columbia Pike Form Based Code to construct 247 multi-family dwelling units and approximately 51,000 sq. ft. of ground floor commercial space with modifications for finished floor elevation for the ground floor and siting specifications, subject to conditions.

At 2 PM the Board will attend an Arlington COVID-19 remembrance event outside the Ellen Bozman Government Center located at 2100 Clarendon Blvd.  The occasion will serve to honor and remember those community members who were lost to COVID-19.  The public is welcome to attend, however, if you are unable or unwilling, the Board encourages you to find ways to pay tribute to the memory of your family and friends who were unfairly taken by the pandemic.

Tuesday, March 22, 2022 – Recessed County Board Meeting

The virtual Recessed Meeting will begin at 3 p.m. with reports from the Board Members and the County Manager.

The meeting will be live streamed on the County website, and on YouTube, and broadcast on Arlington TV, the County’s cable channel, with live captioning, on Comcast 25 & 1085 (HD), and Verizon FiOS 39 & 40. Public Hearings

No earlier than 6:30 p.m. the Board will hold a public hearing and consider items pulled from the Saturday Consent Agenda. Regular public hearings will be held after carryover Consent Agenda items are considered.

The Arlington County Board plans to announce its appointments to the newly created Community Oversight Board (COB).  The 7 voting and 2 non-voting members will later be joined by an Independent Auditor to receive complaints and review the actions of Arlington’s law enforcement personnel.  Over 100 applicants submitted their interest for placement on the Board, and the selections were made after thorough reviews of their qualifications, experience, and goals.  Board members and other stakeholders also conducted virtual interviews with the finalists prior to the ultimate choices.
