Police Host 2nd Annual Pride with the Police Event
Published on June 14, 2022
ARLINGTON, Va. – In recognition of Pride Month and the significant contributions of Arlington’s LGBTQ+ communities, the Arlington County Police Department (ACPD) will host the 2nd Annual Pride with the Police with members of the department’s LGBTQ+ Liaison Team and the Arlington Restaurant Initiative (ARI). Similar to our popular Coffee with a Cop series, this informal event is an opportunity for community members to ask questions, discuss their public safety concerns, and get to know the officers who serve Arlington. During this year’s event, ACPD is partnering with Doorways and Path Forward to celebrate Pride with the Police to connect residents with support services in their community.
ACPD is committed to providing professional law enforcement services to Arlington’s diverse and inclusive community. Through the development of strong community-partnerships, officers work to reduce incidence of crime and improve the overall quality of life in Arlington by making it a place where all people can live safely and without fear. Engagement events such as Pride with the Police provide a unique opportunity to strengthen these partnerships and hear directly from community members.
Pride with the Police will take place on:
- Wednesday, June 29, 2022
- 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Freddie’s Beach Bar and Restaurant, located at 555 23rd Street S.
Arlington Recognized for LGBTQ+ Protections
Arlington received national recognition again from the Human Rights Campaign for its high standards of inclusiveness and protections of LGBTQ+ community members in 2021. Arlington scored 100 points out of 100 on the 10th annual Municipal Equality Index (MEI) for its laws barring discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations based on sexual orientation, for providing LGBTQ+ protections and transgender-inclusive healthcare benefits for County employees, and for its leadership on equality and commitment to ensuring LGBTQ+ constituents are included in city service programs.
Arlington also earned top scores for its law enforcement efforts, including the reporting of hate crimes and engaging with LGBTQ+ communities in a thoughtful and respectful way. ACPD also earned high remarks for including an LGBTQ+ Liaison Team as part of our ongoing commitment to community policing, a philosophy and practice that seeks to involve everyone in the safety and welfare of our community.
About the LGBTQ+ Liaison Team and the Arlington Restaurant Initiative
LGBTQ+ Liaison Team
The LGBTQ+ Liaison Team is comprised of officers who provide liaison services to the LGBTQ+ communities. The team also serves as a training and advisement resource for the department where LGBTQ+ issues are concerned. Each team member is officially assigned to another component of the department and performs LGBTQ+ Liaison Team functions, in addition to their regularly assigned duties. Arlington Restaurant Initiative (ARI)
In an effort to increase safety for community members and to provide restaurant owners and staff, as well as special event staff, with resources to maximize their safety and viability, ACPD has partnered with County agencies to establish ARI. The goal of ARI is to raise the standards of restaurants that serve alcohol, streamline processes within the County Government, and maintain Arlington County as a safe destination for nightlife and entertainment.
