On Wed., Nov. 15, 2023, Sheriff Quiroz and the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office launched the Jails and Justice Support Center (JJSC) hub at an event in the Detention Facility.

Sheriffs from across the nation, jail leaders, members of the Department of Justice, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), National Institution of Corrections, CNA, American Jail Association, the National Sheriff’s Association, the Major County Sheriff’s of America, the National Association of Counties and Rulo Strategies were in attendance.

The JJSC assists jails in "creating and sustaining safe, humane, and effective environments" by working directly with jails to provide training and technical assistance, referrals to federal programs, expert assessments and more.

"We were proud to host sheriffs, jail administrators, partners and stakeholders for this important event," said Sheriff Jose Quiroz. "The safety and wellness of our inmates and staff are of the upmost importance and we all have similar needs and challenges to address. The Jails and Justice Support Center is going to play an integral role in criminal justice."

There were panels on a variety of topics including recruitment and retention, constitutional rights, innovative work regarding substance abuse assistance, behavioral health and medical needs strategies and updates, among other topics. The Center will serve as a hub for resources and technical assistance to help jails maintain safe and humane environments for people who are detained, their visitors, and for those working inside those facilities.
