FY 2024 Budget Adoption – Item 35

The County Board will adopt the Fiscal Year 2025 Budget and set the Calendar Year 2024 property tax rate and other taxes and fees. The public budget process began in December 2023, with the Board's Budget Direction to the County Manager, and included a series of public work sessions, virtual and pop-up public engagement, and public hearings on the Proposed Budget and the Proposed Tax Rate.

In February 2024, the Board advertised a 2.5-cent real estate tax rate increase (1 cent above the manager’s originally proposed 1.5-cent increase), after determining that more flexibility was needed to address County and School budget pressures and challenges this fiscal year (read the Board’s statement on that advertisement here). If adopted, this advertised tax rate would result in an average real estate tax increase of $472 based on the average home value of $824,700. By law, the Board cannot adopt a tax rate higher than this advertised rate, although it may adopt a lower rate.

No further public comment will be heard on this item, as public hearings were held on April 2 (on the proposed Budget) and April 4 (on the proposed tax rates and fees). The FY 2025 Proposed Budget, Budget Summaries, and additional resources can be viewed in the County Manager's Budget Webpage. (Note: All budget staff reports will be available only after the budget wrap-up work session on Tues., April 16).

Wednesday, April 24, 2024 – Recessed County Board Meeting
The Recessed Meeting will begin at 3 p.m. with reports from the Board Members and the County Manager.

The Board will hold a public hearing no earlier than 6:30 p.m. and consider items pulled from the Saturday Consent Agenda. Regular public hearings will be held after carryover Consent Agenda items are considered.
