Arlington’s Fall E-CARE Accepting Drop-offs on Oct. 5
Published on September 27, 2024
Don’t carry over your old electronics and household hazardous materials (HHMs) into the new year. Arlington's free Environmental Collection and Recycling (E-CARE) event will accept drop-offs on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (rain or shine) at Wakefield High School (1325 South Dinwiddie Street).
E-CARE is the biannual event for Arlington residents to safely dispose of old electronics and HHMs. This past spring, more than 1,100 people dropped off 25 tons of HHMs, almost 11 tons of electronics, and nearly four tons of scrap metal for environmentally safe disposal. The HHM Facility at the Water Pollution Control Plant also accepts drop-offs year-round (by appointment only, except on Saturdays).
Accepted materials include paint products (25-can limit); pesticides; motor oil and solvents; devices containing mercury; fluorescent bulbs; garden and swimming pool chemicals; old electronics; batteries; fire extinguishers; propane tanks; and some small metal items. The full, extensive list of accepted (and unaccepted) items is available at www.arlingtonva.us/E-CARE. Please note that business and commercial wastes as well as bicycle donations will not be accepted at Fall E-CARE 2024.
E-CARE drop-off is offered exclusively to Arlington residents. Please bring a photo ID or a recent utility bill to show proof of residence during check-in.
Residents are encouraged to coordinate with neighbors on combining loads to cut down the number of trips to the E-CARE site. Vehicles should be packed in reverse order to make unloading easier: Small metal items go in first, electronics and HHMs next. Place HHMs and electronics in separate cardboard boxes for easy handling and to prevent spills. The cardboard will be recycled.
As a reminder, the monthly Free Paper Shredding and Inert Material Drop-off is also happening on Oct. 5, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Solid Waste Bureau (4300 29th Street South).
