Arlington to Conduct Aerial Drone Survey to Measure Deer Population
Published on March 10, 2025
Arlington, VA – Arlington County will conduct its second aerial drone deer population survey from March 17-21, 2025 (weather permitting), to document the number and distribution of white-tailed deer. This effort builds on the initial drone study conducted in 2021 and is a key component of the County’s Deer Management Program, which aims to protect natural ecosystems and ensure public safety.
Why This Survey Matters
This drone survey is part of Arlington’s ongoing commitment to responsibly manage its natural resources and maintain ecological balance. The data collected will play a pivotal role in the effective implementation of the Deer Management Program, supporting the health and safety of both the environment and the community. Understanding deer population trends will help guide management strategies to address overpopulation and protect native plant communities.
