Mary Marshall Memorial Scholarship

The Mary Marshall Memorial Scholarship was established by the Arlington County Board in 1994 to honor the memory of Mary Marshall, an outstanding public servant who represented Arlington County for 24 years as a delegate to the Virginia General Assembly. The scholarships are one reflection of the importance the County places on public service and the development of its future leaders. The Mary Marshall Memorial Scholarship is administered by the Arlington Community Foundation. Amounts Scholarships up to $1,500.

Requirements Attendance at Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC), any campus Studies must lead to public service career (for example: public administration, education, public health, public safety, etc.) Recipients may re-apply annually and be awarded a maximum of three scholarships, as long as they remain in good academic standing.

Eligibility

  • Must be an Arlington County resident.
  • Applicants for a full-time scholarship must have graduated from an Arlington County high school (public or private).
  • Both women and men – of any age – may apply.

  • Kathy Melendez-Osorio is a graduate of Wakefield High School and plans to become a Registered Nurse.
  • Masud Haque is a graduate of Wakefield High School and plans to pursue a degree in computer science.
  • Melanie Ewell is a graduate of Wakefield High School and plans to pursue a career as in Dance Therapy.
  • Toyam Khatri is a graduate of Wakefield High School and plans to pursue a career in medicine.
  • Tafat Zurita is a graduate of Yorktown High School and plans to become an economist.

  • Nazia Khan is graduating from Washington-Liberty High School and wants to become a physical therapist.
  • Charlotte Hepler will be graduating from Yorktown High School and plans to study business, art history or public policy.
  • Jose Vasquez hopes to study computer science in order to impact education and public policy.
  • Joseph McGeary is a graduate of Yorktown High School and wants to become a teacher.
  • Karla Vasquez is graduating from Wakefield High School and plans to become a computer programmer.
  • Monique Spain is a graduate of Washington-Liberty High School and is pursuing a degree in elementary education.
