Great Southeast Shakeout Day

WHEREAS, October 20, 2016, at 10:20 am, is the Great Southeast ShakeOut, as declared by the Department of Homeland Security; and

WHEREAS, the goal for the Great Southeast ShakeOut is to prepare for earthquakes; and

WHEREAS, earthquakes strike without any warning, and occur in all parts of the country; and

WHEREAS, everyone should learn to drop, cover and hold on during an earthquake; and

WHEREAS, The Great Southeast ShakeOut is an opportunity for all residents and employees to prepare and practice for earthquakes, by participating in the Great Southeast ShakeOut drill, on October 20, at 10:20 am; and

WHEREAS, Arlington County’s Office of Emergency Management and the Emergency Preparedness Advisory Commission, (EPAC,) are encouraging Arlingtonians to be informed about how to prepare the home for earthquakes; and

WHEREAS, preparedness is everyone’s responsibility;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Libby Garvey, Chair of the County Board of Arlington, Virginia, do hereby proclaim October 20th as the

GREAT SOUTHEAST SHAKEOUT DAY

in Arlington County and urge all citizens to take part in the earthquake drill at 10:20 am.
