NATIONAL VIETNAM WAR VETERANS DAY
WHEREAS, March 29, 2019 marks the second anniversary of National Vietnam War Veterans Day; and
WHEREAS, men and women from Arlington County have served with distinction in the Armed Forces in the Vietnam War and the wars to follow, and they continue to serve in defense of our freedoms; and
WHEREAS, fifty-four Arlington County residents were among those Americans killed in action during the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, Arlington County is home to Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall and thousands of military veterans of all Military Services; and
WHEREAS, the President signed into law S. 305, the “Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017,” which encourages the display of the U.S. flag on March 29, in honor of National Vietnam War Veterans Day; and
WHEREAS, more than 8.7 million U.S. Service members were deployed worldwide from August 4, 1964 to May 7, 1975, of which more than 2.7 million served in Vietnam, with 47,434 giving their lives in combat and another 153,303 were wounded;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Christian Dorsey, Chair of the County Board in Arlington, Virginia, do hereby proclaim March 29, 2019 as
NATIONAL VIETNAM WAR VETERANS DAY
in Arlington County and encourage our residents to remember and commemorate our Vietnam Veterans and the great sacrifices they made in serving our nation.
