PEACE OFFICERS’ MEMORIAL DAY

WHEREAS, the Crime Law of 1994 permits United States flags at all government buildings to be flown at half-staff in honor of Peace Officers’ Memorial Day; and

WHEREAS, Peace Officers’ Memorial Day recognizes the unconditional sacrifices of more than 21,000 federal, state, and local law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty; and

WHEREAS, on this special day, the Arlington County Board and the citizens we serve hereby pay tribute to the ultimate sacrifices of Arlington County’s fallen officers – Special Police Officer Louis Franklin Shaw, Detective Russell Clinton Pettie, Officer Arthur Chorovich, Officer Israel P. Gonzalez, Officer John Buckley, Officer George Pomraning, Jr., and Corporal Harvey Snook, III; and

WHEREAS, Arlington County believes it is important to unite with federal agencies, state and local governments across the country, and the families of peace officers who have been killed in the line of duty in memory of the officers and in support of their families; and

WHEREAS, we also recognize and praise the valiant efforts of Arlington County’s law enforcement officers currently in service who have pledged to protect our lives from violence and disorder, and our property from theft and vandalism;

NOW, THEREFORE I, Christian Dorsey, Chair of the County Board of Arlington, Virginia, do hereby proclaim May 10, 2019, as

PEACE OFFICERS’ MEMORIAL DAY

in Arlington County and urge every citizen to take a moment during this day to remember those law enforcement officers who have given their lives in the service of the people in their communities and across the nation.
