VIRGINIA WOMEN VETERANS WEEK

WHEREAS, 2019 marks the second year the Commonwealth of Virginia will devote a week to honor all women who served in the U.S. military during Virginia Women Veterans Week; and

WHEREAS, the service and sacrifice of more than 104,000 women veterans who call Virginia home will be recognized; and

WHEREAS, Virginia boasts the highest percentage of women veterans per capita of any state in America; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Secretary of Veterans and Defense Affairs, Carlos Hopkins, announced the commemorative week and said, “Throughout the history of our Commonwealth and our Nation, women have served with distinction as a vital part of our military. Their dedication, energy, leadership, and sense of duty is outstanding and is one reason our armed forces are the finest in the world”;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Christian Dorsey, Chair of the County Board of Arlington, Virginia, do hereby proclaim March 17 to 23, 2019 as

VIRGINIA WOMEN VETERANS WEEK

in Arlington County and encourage our residents to remember and commemorate our Women Veterans and the great sacrifices they made in serving our nation.
