Opera Appreciation

For opera lovers and learners, enhance your appreciation of the magnificent art and drama of opera. Volunteer George Cecchetti will set the stage for each opera, providing the story line, composer and other interesting background. Complete operas from the NYC Met on Demand will be presented. These videos are over 2 hours long, so each will take 2 sessions to present the entire opera. March: Siegfried, the third opera in Wagner's Ring Cycle; April: The Enchanted Island, with music by Handel, Vivaldi and others to a libretto related to The Tempest; May: Les Troyens, the rarely-performed epic opera by Hector Berlioz, based on Virgil's Aeneid.
