Tennis Classes

Arlington County offers a wide-range of tennis classes for youth to adult.  These classes will provide you the opportunity to learn, improve, and challenge yourself.  Classes are held outdoors in the Fall, Early Spring, Spring, Summer, and Fall.  We provide limited indoor class opportunities in the Winter.  We host our classes at various court locations each weeknight along with some weekday and weekend opportunities.  Classes are weekly and typically run from between 4-9 weeks. Class Descriptions:

Youth

Little Shots (ages 4-6)

Here’s an introduction to tennis through fun games and activities designed to build hand-eye coordination and familiarity with the tennis ball and racket. (A tennis racket is required.) 

Tennis 1 & 2 (ages 7-10 & 10-14)

Through fun, skill-building games beginners and advanced beginners learn and develop fundamental tennis strokes. Students are encouraged to repeat this class until they feel confident with all the fundamental strokes.

Tennis 3- Transition to Match Play (ages 8-10 & 10-14)

This program teaches the skills necessary to play tennis matches for the first time emphasizing serving and peer-to-peer hitting. Each session is a mix of instruction and match play. Ideal for players ready to transition from our Tennis 1&2 programs.

Tennis 4- JV Tennis (ages 12-16)

This program helps players build skills and learn tactics necessary to succeed in junior varsity or varsity tennis. Each session is a mix of instruction via drills and match play. Ability to rally and serve required.

Adult (18+)

Tennis 1

For players new to tennis or returning to the sport after some time, this program focuses on stroke development and getting the ball into play. Students are encouraged to repeat this class until they feel confident with the fundamental strokes.

Tennis 2

Players with limited on-court experience will strengthen stroke fundamentals and develop the movement, positioning and skills necessary for initial singles and doubles match play. For players who have completed Tennis 1 or have similar experience.

Tennis 3

Players with limited on-court experience will strengthen stroke fundamentals and develop the movement, positioning and skills necessary for initial singles and doubles match play. For players who have completed Tennis I or have similar experience.

Tennis 4

This program is for intermediate and advanced players. It focuses on increasing stroke dependability, improving directional control, depth and variety, and aggressive net play. 

Private Lessons

For players who would like more individual attention, you can book private lessons with coaches. Private lessons are available on a limited basis.  Lessons are $75 for a weekly hour lesson.
