SafeSport: For Coaches & Professionals

Coaches have the responsibility to provide a safe environment for youth athletes to participate and prosper in sports. Simple steps can be taken to ensure athletes are treated with professionalism and awarded the opportunity be safe. Coach/Athlete interactions should remain professional at all times. Coaches should not place themselves in a situation where they are left alone with athletes.

Prevention Policies

• Social Media/Electronic Gaming Policy – Example: Social media and electronic communication must remain professional in nature and include other adults.
• Travel Policy – Example: Coaches are strongly encouraged not to provide transportation to youth athletes.
• Photography/Video Policy – Example: Photographs or videos of athletes must be taken in public view and observe generally accepted standards of decency. An athlete and/or his/her legal guardian may request his or her photo be removed from display or posting.

SafeSport Online Training

The U.S. Center for SafeSport’s online training is an educational tool for prevention of abuse in sport. Education and awareness are the most critical components to creating safe and respectful sport environments. The SafeSport Trained course covers the following topics in-depth:

• Mandatory Reporting
• Sexual Misconduct Awareness Education
• Emotional and Physical Misconduct

This training is for coaches, team volunteers, officials or team staff members. The comprehensive online training course is 90 minutes long, and costs $20 per person.
