Background Questionnaire
Sworn officers, as well as civilian staff with direct inmate contact, undergo a rigorous hiring process that includes written and performance testing, an extensive background investigation, a polygraph, physical examination, and psychological testing.
Contract staff, volunteers, and temporary staff must also meet minimum standards to work in the detention facility and other secure areas in and around the Justice Center Complex.
New hires complete in-depth training, which for most positions includes a 24-week pre-academy training program, as well as an annual in-service refresher training. Deputy Sheriffs must also be certified in Law Enforcement, Corrections, Service of Civil Process and Warrants, and Courtroom and Courthouse Security.
