ARLINGTON, Va., August 14, 2024 – The Arlington County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the implementation of Sublocade as a part of the Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program within the detention facility. The program is aimed at addressing opioid dependency among those in our custody.

Sublocade, a buprenorphine extended-release injection, is used for the treatment of opioid use disorder. This is a once-a-month injection that offers straightforward dosing and allows those taking the medication to reach and sustain therapeutic levels. This introduction is part of our comprehensive approach to improve the health and well-being of those in our care, contributing to their successful reintegration into society.

Since launching this additional option, inmates have experienced substantial benefits, to include a reduction in cravings and the need for daily dosing. This has contributed to a more stable and supportive environment within our facility. The Sheriff's Office is committed to continuing this initiative and exploring additional opportunities to support the health and rehabilitation of those in our custody.

Sheriff Quiroz expressed his enthusiasm for the program's positive impact: "We are thrilled with the successes of the MAT program. Our goal is to provide inmates with the tools they need to overcome addiction, and this program is a significant step in that direction. The feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with many reporting noticeable improvements in their health and outlook on life."

"Our priority is the safety and well-being of our community, both inside and outside the detention facility," Sheriff Quiroz added. "By addressing substance use disorders head-on, we are making strides towards reducing recidivism and helping individuals reclaim their lives."
