The Building
Before the mural on the façade of 3700 South Four Mile Run was created, the vibrant arts hub didn’t stand out amongst the industrial buildings surrounding it in Four Mile Run Valley. In response to a need from a dedicated group of artists who use 3700 South Four Mile Run as a home base to bring more visibility to the building, Arlington County Cultural Affairs commissioned artists Ham Smith to create the bright and whimsical mural that’s now there. His most recent projects have been commissioned in New York City, Los Angeles, Virginia, and Savannah. His mural on 3700 is set on a background of saffron yellow, the artist reflects the vibrancy of the building’s daily activities with images that claim the creative identity.
