Family Unification Program

Teen Girl

The Family Unification Program (FUP) is a program under which Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8) are provided to families for whom the lack of adequate housing is a primary  factor in the imminent placement of the family’s child, or children, in out-of-home care; or the delay in the discharge of the child, or children, to the family from out-of-home care. This program also includes an 18-month Voucher for youth at lease 18 year old and not more than 21 years old who left foster care at age 16 or older and who do not have adequate housing. The FUP program is available only to families who are referred by the Arlington County Child and Family Service Division.

Eligibility

  • The Department of Human Services’ Child and Family Services Division (CFSD) must refer eligible families to FUP.
  • Individuals must not submit applications directly to the Arlington County Housing Choice Voucher (ACHCV) Program.
  • Individuals currently on the ACHCV Program waitlist will be referred to CFSD for FUP vouchers.

NOTE: Due to a limited number of FUP vouchers, the Arlington County Child and Family Service Division is no longer accepting applications.

For referral information, contact CFSD at 703-228-1500.
