Mainstream Vouchers

The Mainstream Voucher or Section 811 Housing Choice Voucher Program is a specialized housing voucher subsidy for non-elderly persons with disabilities who are transitioning out of institutional or other segregated settings; at risk of institutionalization, homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless.

A household composed of one or more non-elderly persons with disabilities. Non-elderly persons with disabilities includes a person 18 years of age or older and less than 62 years of age.  A household where the sole member is an emancipated minor is not an eligible household.

Arlington County was awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) 52 Mainstream Vouchers to be made available to qualified eligible residents.

Yes. Current Housing Choice Voucher waitlist applicants are eligible to receive Mainstream Vouchers. Current applicants on the Housing Choice Voucher waitlist will receive priority screening for Mainstream eligibility.

Yes. Arlington County’s Housing Choice Voucher Program will announce future opportunities for new applicants and referring agencies to apply for Mainstream Vouchers.

Mainstream Vouchers are being actively deployed to applicants currently on Arlington County’s Housing Choice Voucher Program waiting lists.  Future opportunities for new applicants and referring agencies to apply for Mainstream Vouchers will be communicated through this webpage or through the County’s Housing Choice & Voucher & Program website.
