Register for a free native tree 

The Arlington County Department of Parks and Recreation is providing 500 young native trees to Arlington residents at no cost this fall. The trees you plant are part of our mission to expand and enhance Arlington’s urban tree canopy. The available trees are generally termed “whips” in the nursery trade and are in two-gallon containers ranging from 2–6 feet in size. This annual program is very popular and has yielded many beautiful trees and benefited our community.  

Registration will begin Tues., Sept. 2, 2025 at noon.

Species Available: Various native species that change every year.

Tree Distribution Days

Come meet County landscape staff and members of the Arlington/Alexandria Tree Stewards organization. They will be on site to help you select your tree, answer questions and share tips about caring for your tree.

Important Notes

  • Only one (1) tree total per residential property. 
  • If you are unable to pick up your tree, need to change your pick up date, or have trouble registering, please contact our registration office.
  • Please bring proof of Arlington residency with you to pick up your tree.
  • If you miss your pick up date, your tree may be offered to others on a first come first served basis after 6 p.m. Tues.
  • Park your vehicle in the Tucker field parking lot and walk down the path on the far left. Those with ADA or mobility issues may drive cautiously down the driveway to pick up their tree.
