Arlington County and the City of Alexandria used a design-build approach for the rehabilitation of the West Glebe Road Bridge and selected Corman Kokosing Construction Company with artists Vicki Scuri and Alexandr Polzin. The $9.89 million bridge project includes separate bike lanes and sidewalks, design enhancements, and embellished lighting. The project aims to improve physical connection between the communities of Arlington County and the City of Alexandria, and advances the vision of the Four Mile Run Master Plan.

People driving, biking, or walking across the bustling West Glebe Road Bridge will notice a series of graduating arcs and bubble patterns that enliven the concrete parapets and the metal grills of the rebuilt bridge, enhancing the experience of crossing the bridge. The design encourages people to slow down, appreciate their surroundings and reflect on the natural beauty of Four Mile Run. As a pair, the West Glebe Road Bridge and the Arlington Ridge Road Bridge, located just a mile downstream, welcome those traversing between Arlington County and the City of Alexandria.

Illuminated handrails enhance the pedestrian experience of crossing the bridge at night, while the lighting underneath the bridge provides comfort to those using Four Mile Run Trail. These aesthetic amenities incorporated into the rehabilitation of the West Glebe Road Bridge lend an elegance to this infrastructure project and will serve the community for decades to come.
