Dog Licenses
If you’re an Arlington resident and your dog is at least six months old, you must license your dog, per the Arlington County Code. Also, you must vaccinate any dog older than four months against rabies, per Virginia Code § 3.2-6521. Arlington County does require residents to license service dogs but there is no fee for service dogs.

As of July 1, 2019: Lifetime Dog Licenses!
As of July 1, 2019, new and renewed dog licenses will be valid for the life of your pet and will not need to be renewed as long as you maintain your pet’s active rabies vaccination. The cost of a lifetime dog license is $30.00. Apply for a lifetime license by completing this application(PDF, 86KB) and submitting it by mail, in person, or online (renewals only). If you already have a 1-year or a 3-year license for your dog, it will remain valid until its expiration date, after which you can obtain a lifetime license.

You can pay by cash, check, money order, debit card, or credit card. Credit card payments are subject to a convenience fee, charged directly to you by our service provider.
Online (Renewals Only)
Go to Arlington County’s Customer Assessment and Payment Portal (CAPP) to renew your dog licenses.
You also can get a dog license application from any Arlington veterinarian’s office or at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington.
