Williamsburg Boulevard and North Kensington Street Intersection

The project is reconstructing the intersection of Williamsburg Boulevard and North Kensington Street to improve pedestrian safety.

The Rock Spring Civic Association identified the proposed improvements in 2010. The Neighborhood Conservation Advisory Committee (NCAC) recommended funding the project in December 2010. The County Board approved funding in February 2011.

Proposed Improvements

  • Installation of nubs at the intersection to reduce the crossing distance from 115 feet to 63 feet for pedestrians crossing Williamsburg Blvd.
  • New pedestrian median will be added to the east side of the intersection to enable pedestrians to wait in between traffic lanes.
  • Crosswalks and striping will be repainted to increase the visibility.
  • Redesign the traffic circulation of the intersection to slow the speed of right-turning vehicles as they enter neighborhood streets.
