The Urban Design section collaborates with local schools and students on assorted visioning projects as a way to generate new ideas and give students vital experience.
Virginia Tech – Rosslyn Waterfront
Students were asked to envision what could be done with a new, accessible Rosslyn waterfront. Three programs were developed for students to choose from, each including both a means for arriving and an activity at the site.

Pranjali Rai – School Development in Urban Areas
Pranjali’s thesis addresses barriers to elementary school development in urbanizing areas through creative design and planning strategies.

Adam Watson – A Walkable Lyon Village Shopping Center
Adam analyzed the existing conditions of the intersection at the Lyon Village Shopping Center and provided recommendations for improving walkability. These recommendations could reduce congestion and car crashes, increase pedestrian safety and more.
