Envision Courthouse Square

The County Board initiated the community planning process, Envision Courthouse Square, in 2013 in order to update the vision outlined in the 1993 Courthouse Sector Plan Addendum. The updated, long-range plan will guide the development of a new civic center and public destination for Arlington over the next several decades. The Courthouse Sector Plan Addendum sets forth a vision, concept, design guidelines and implementation recommendations to transform Courthouse into “Courthouse Square,” a place for visitors to gather for recreation, relaxation and to celebrate important events.
On September 21, 2015, the County Board voted to adopt the Courthouse Sector Plan Addendum.
In June 2016, the American Planning Association Virginia Chapter recognized the Addendum with honorable mentions for both the Outstanding Plan and Public Outreach and Engagement awards.
