WalkArlington

The pedestrian element of the Master Transportation Plan was adopted in 1997. It advanced policy initiatives to meet the needs of pedestrians. In March 2004, the WalkArlington Initiative was published. It studied a pilot area in Ballston but also proposed a comprehensive refocusing of pedestrian efforts. The recommendations made in this proposal attempt to advance the concepts of the WalkArlington Program throughout the County.

The program funds the design and implementation of multiple projects that give primary consideration to the pedestrian, provide a safe pedestrian environment, create enjoyable pedestrian “places” and ensure a well-connected pedestrian network that’s easy to navigate.
