The construction contract for this project was awarded to Ardent Company LLC in May 2024. The preconstruction meeting for the project was held on July 2, 2024. Construction on site is scheduled to start Aug. 5, 2024.

New Park Site

About the Project

The New Park at South Eads Street and Army Navy Drive (formerly known as the “Teardrop Parcel” areas) is an area for public space development, per County Board designation in October 2019. The New Park is located adjacent to the Altaire residential development and 400 11th Street South, Verizon Site development and bisected by 11th Street South in the Crystal City neighborhood. It is walking distance from both the Pentagon City and Crystal City Metro Stations and is located close to other modes of public transportation. The New Park is also at walking distance to Metropolitan Park, Long Bridge Park and Virginia Highlands Park.

Fall 2020 - Feedback on Existing Conditions and Use

The first engagement opportunity consisted of an online presentation (video/slides) and opportunity to provide thoughts related to current use of the site and visions for its future. Community comments helped inform draft design concepts.

Winter 2021/2022 - Feedback on Draft Concepts

  • The second engagement opportunity shared details about three draft concepts (video/slides) with an opportunity to provide thoughts about desired elements and features. Community comments are helping refine a final draft design.
  • For the third engagement opportunity, community members were invited to learn about new design updates (video/slides) that were informed by community comments and share feedback on the final draft design. See community comments here.

Summer 2021 - County Board Action

The draft Park Master Plan (PMP) and Design Guidelines for the New Park at Army Navy Drive and South Eads Street project was approved by the County Board.

Spring 2022 - Final Draft Design Feedback

The latest engagement was released on March 25, 2022 and closed on April 8, 2022. This included a video and engagement form. Thank you for your input. These Community comments(PDF, 191KB) are informing the final design.

Winter 2022/2023 - County Board Action

On Jan. 21, 2023, the County Board adopted an amendment to the General Land Use Plan (GLUP) to change the land use designation for the public space, a rezoning, South Eads Street abandonment, vacation, and resubdivision, as well as a new park name to “Arlington Junction Park”.
