Columbia Pike: Segment A
Paving Between South Orme Street and South Oak Street
Starting Nov. 18, crews will be paving Columbia Pike between S. Orme St. and S. Oak St., to be completed week of Nov. 25.
Work hours will be 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Police will be present to guide traffic.

StatusConstruction
Construction on Federal project between South Oak Street and South Joyce Street and the County project from South Orme Street to South Oak Street have started, and both are expected to reach completion in 2025.
Travel Impacts - Fall 2024
Crews are conducting paving work, and sidewalk and parking remediation on Columbia Pike between South Orme Street and South Nash Street. This work will take place through the fall and will require some lane closures in the area
South Oak Street to South Nash Street
The temporary parking for Dama Restaurant has been relocated to a portion of the road along the east side of Oak Street and inside of the bakery lot (in the northeast area of the lot).

Reopening Columbia Pike - South Nash Street to South Joyce Street
As part of the Arlington National Cemetery Defense Access Roads (DAR) Project by the Federal Highway Administration, Columbia Pike has reopened in its new alignment.
Here's What's Changing
- Columbia Pike has been straightened to connect with South Joyce Street closer to the I-395 overpass
- Southgate Road is closed vehicular access east of South Oak Street
- Pedestrian access will remain in place along the stone wall on Southgate Road to connect to the Washington Boulevard Side Path
- Pedestrian/bike access is open on the south side of Columbia Pike
Bus access on Columbia Pike between South Orme Street and Army Navy Drive will remain closed while the sidewalk on the north side of Columbia Pike is still under construction.
Pedestrian, bike and transit access on this segment of Columbia Pike are expected to be fully open in late 2024.

South Orme Street to South Nash Street
Crews are conducting paving work, and sidewalk and parking remediation on Columbia Pike between South Orme Street and South Nash Street. This work will take place through the fall and will require some lane closures in the area:
- Westbound lanes closed; two-way traffic on eastbound lanes
- Lane reductions at South Ode Street, South Oak Street, and South Orme Street for approximately 150 feet at intersections with Columbia Pike
- Pedestrian access will be maintained through the closures
- Businesses will remain open through construction
After this work is completed, traffic will shift again to allow crews to move to the next step in the project

About The Project
Segment A of the Columbia Pike Multimodal Street Improvements project will take place in two parts, Arlington County’s project from South Orme Street to South Oak Street, and the federal Arlington National Cemetery Defense Access Roads (DAR) project, from South Oak Street to the South Joyce Street/Washington Boulevard interchange.
Segment A West: Arlington County Project
Arlington County is implementing Multimodal Improvements project on Columbia Pike. This project will provide the following changes:
- Widened sidewalks on both side of Columbia Pike between South Orme Street and South Oak Street
- Transit stations at Columbia Pike & South Orme Street bus stops
Segment A East: Federal Project
The Arlington National Cemetery Defense Access Roads (DAR) project on the east end of Columbia Pike is a federal project by the US Department of Transportation.
In addition to the expansion, the project will provide the following changes:
- Realign Columbia Pike east of South Oak Street
- Reconfigure the intersection of South Joyce Street at the Columbia Pike/South Washington Boulevard Interchange
- A new bike and pedestrian connector trail on the north side of Columbia Pike

Timeline
