South and West Glebe Road Intersection Improvements

Status

Planned

Arlington County is looking to improve the safety and access of the South and West Glebe Road intersection. Community feedback on existing conditions will help inform concepts designs to improve safety and access for everyone traveling through the intersection.

About the Project

The intersection of South Glebe and West Glebe Road experiences high volumes of motor vehicle traffic. The crossing is a critical connection between Arlington County and the City of Alexandria, the Four Mile Run Trail, the West Glebe Bridge, I-395, as well as nearby residences, businesses, and schools.

The intersection has been identified as a high collision intersection, and is part of Arlington County’s High Injury Network. Between 2015 and 2017 there were 24 reported collisions that vary from damage to property to physical injury.

Arlington County is committed to enhancing safety and access for all users at this intersection by improving the West Glebe Road bridge and improving the intersection through this project.

Public Process

  • Fall 2022: Arlington County will ask the users of the intersection for feedback on existing conditions through an online portal.
    • County staff will break down the feedback received and use it to inform a concept design for the intersection.
  • Winter 2022: Design alternatives will be presented to the public at 15% for public comment.
    • Feedback received will inform a final concept design, which will be communicated to stakeholders and feedback participants.
