North Glebe Road Water Main Replacement
StatusConstruction
About the Project
Arlington County’s contractor will construct a 12-inch water main on North Glebe Road between North Pershing Drive and North Randolph Street. The water main will replace an existing main that was constructed in the 1920s and serve to improve flow capacity and support demand in the neighborhood. This work is part of the Water Main Replacement Program identified in the County's Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), which is part of the County's effort to replace old, unlined cast iron pipes that are subjected to internal and external corrosion that hinder flow capacity.
Work began the week of Dec. 4 and will be conducted in phases, with an estimated project completion of early 2025.
Construction will take place on weekdays from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Mon.-Fri., weather permitting. There is also the possibility of overnight work from 10 p.m.-5 a.m. on weeknights. No weekend work is anticipated for this project.
County contractor A&M Concrete Construction will begin by installing the water main along the designated work area before connecting the new water main to existing cross-street water mains. Water utility services will then be transferred to the new main, followed by asphalt and concrete restoration and pavement markings.
Water disruptions will occur when connecting the new water main to the existing water mains and when connecting residential and commercial water utility services to the new water main. Residents and business owners will be notified of any disruptions to water services at least 48 hours in advance.
Construction activity will impact all road users. There will be temporary closures of crosswalks and single lane closures on stretches of North Glebe Road during the project. All road users should be alert for lane shifts and obey instructions from traffic flaggers. Signage will direct pedestrians to open crosswalks.
