Arlington’s Naming Centennial Celebration & Sealing of Time Capsule

1920 — 2020, Looking Both Ways

On Friday, November 19, 2021, Arlington County Board, the County Manager, State Delegates of the Virginia General Assembly, and community leaders came together to reflect upon Arlington’s diverse history over the past century while looking towards the future. The celebration, which took place at the Lubber Run Community Center, featured several exhibitions from the Arlington Community Archives, the sealing of the time capsule,  a sampling of various art and historic artifacts on display, and celebratory baked goods! The time capsule sealing ceremony as well as a list of all the items found in the time capsule can be found below.

When would-be spectators missed an Alexandria County parade by showing up in the City of Alexandria, the Civic Federation began advocating for a change of name.
