Project Background

The existing culverts that carry Little Pimmit Run under N. Dumbarton St have reached the end of their useful life and are in need of replacement.  The culverts are also undersized for the location and sometimes Little Pimmit Run overflows the top of the culvert.   The new culverts will be an open span arch design to better allow flow through the culvert.  The culvert replacement project aims to provide a long-term solution for the residents of N Dumbarton Street, improving their quality of life and reducing the risk of flood damage to properties. Furthermore, the project will contribute to the overall health and sustainability of the Little Run watershed.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) floodplains have also been analyzed to ensure the most effective flood mitigation strategies are implemented.

Project Tasks

  • Replace the existing upstream metal culvert (12'Wx8'Hx40'L) with a proposed precast concrete arch culvert (27'Wx9.4'Hx40.1'L).
  • Replace the existing downstream metal double culvert (12'Wx8'Hx80'L) with a proposed precast concrete arch culvert (28'Wx10.3'Hx80.2'L)
  • Install stone riprap along the eroding areas of the channel upstream to prevent further erosion.
  • Install a proposed storm drain inlet near property # 3777, connected to the stream with a 15-inch concrete pipe to improve drainage issues.
  • Abandon the existing 15-inch crossing at property #3900 and reconnect the proposed 15-inch concrete pipe to the new culvert downstream.
  • Relocate the existing water main and gas lines along N Dumbarton Street to accommodate the new culvert placement.
  • Stabilize the surrounding areas affected by construction to minimize environmental impact and ensure a safe environment for residents.
